Lion's Den

Opened in January 2011, the Lion’s Den is a state-of-the-art “NHL Legacy Classroom” located on the fifth floor of North Carolina Children’s Hospital. The Lion’s Den was given as a gift to the Children’s Hospital by the National Hockey League and hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine’s Companions in Courage Foundation. It commemorates the 2011 National Hockey League All-Star Weekend, the League’s midseason spectacular, which was held in North Carolina.

Cisco Systems was the presenting sponsor of the Carolina Hurricanes-themed room. The interactive technology available in the room is meant to keep kids connected to friends, teachers and families while in the hospital.

Features of the Lion’s Den:

  • Cisco’s online conferencing system, WebEx
  • Ability to connect with other NHL Legacy classrooms
  • SMART Board and a SMART Table provided by SMART Technologies
  • Computers with Internet

Using the Lion’s Den

The Lion’s Den is for patients on the fifth floor of the hospital. It is often used for one-on-one teaching by our Hospital School and for therapy sessions by Recreational Therapy and Child Life. If you’d like to use the Lion’s Den, please ask your nursing staff for assistance.
